Hunter Bryce

So I was reading Sports Illustrated the other day and this was the issue where Hunter Bryce, the next prodigy, of baseball had a large article on him.  It said he hits 570 foot home runs, throws 96 mph, has a bat speed faster than Mark Macguire in his prime among many other things.  Then the magazine makes a comparison of Hunter to Lebron James.  However, basebal is not the same as basketball, sure the NBA has bigger, faster, and stronger players, but this is baseball.  Try going from little high school pitchers throwing maybe low ninties with a decent duce and possibly a third pitch that is okay at best.  Then if this kid plays for the MLB next season, even in the low minor leagues the pitchers are really good compared to High School pitchers.  So, calling this guy the next Lebron James is an overstatment becuase I believe we all know the problems with these predictions as they never turn out how they seem.  What do you think about the kid...he is good but how good can he be?

NFL Draft

So on that Saturday of the draft I had a baseball game so I missed the first round inwhich I was not happay about.  However, my trainer Jeff was keeping my team posted and I was really happy about the Bills first pick of Aaron Maybin.  However, Brian Orakpo was still on the board and although Maybin was th quickest of all the defensive linemen of the draft, Orakpo was rated higher and was overall bigger that Maybin.  But, none the less, it was a good pick despite him only playing one year of college ball.  But, we needed a left tackle to replace Peters and we got a hybrid center and guard...WHAT ARE WE THINKING!  Left tackles were one of the deepest positions in the draft but yet Buffalo doesn't choose one.  I think we had a good draft though non the less I just wish more had been done for what we needed.

What people don't realize is that Buffalo is a winning sports town.  Sure I will agree that the major sports teams like the Bills and the Sabres have not been very successful, there is a different team making buzz in Buffalo.  The National Lacross League has a team known as the Bandits in that plays their home games in HSBC arena in Buffalo.  I went to see them play last night and with the game they clinched home field advantage in the NLL playoffs and have a shot at defending their 2008 championship.  Since the team came to Buffalo, they have won four championships and currently have the leading scorer in league history, Johnny Tavaras.  Last night they packed seventeen thousand fans into the arena and are now moving into the focus of the city.  Don't forget about other sports besides the major four.
